Tying the Knot!

As a test to see just who reads the blog, Becky and I would like to make a huge announcement here: we’re getting married! We hate to steal the thunder from my Dad and G-Lo, but I guess they did kind of put the idea in our heads. I proposed to Becky on top of one of the mountains in Akaroa as we drove through the other day, and luckily, she said yes! Otherwise, this post would have a much more somber tone…

So what finally convinced me to do it? I’m really not sure, but after my Dad called a few weeks ago, it just sort of occurred to me over the past few days, and I thought, why don’t we? So I asked Becky, and she said yes! As you can imagine, this is all a big deal for us, and we’re still working out how we’re going to make it all happen. We know this may disappoint some people, but we’ll almost definitely be getting hitched here. Don’t worry, we’ll have a big party when we get home! It just seemed like the thing to do, and so whenever people ask us about our wedding later, we can say, “Yeah, we got married in New Zealand when we were there for a year.” More to come later, feel free to leave congrats comments though!

AAHHH! This better not be an April fool’s! Adam and I have been praying soooo hard that you two accept the institution of marriage ASAP…if this is in fact not an answered prayer I will personally reach through the internet and beat you two upside the head! If you two are telling the truth, YIPPIE! WhoooaaaHOooo! Congratulations! (Seriously, if this is some kinda’ sick joke, you two are so grounded…I remember you telling me that if you ever got married it would because you decided to have kids…so either ya’ll are pregnant or this is a terrible prank to provoke comments…????????????)

Considering the fact that there have been sooooo many people back here in the US hoping for just such an announcement, and the fact that you do have to return at some point, and face us--your family, friends, and "cousins"....I am confident that this is not some crazy April Fool's joke. I might add that while I am not at all surprised that you would choose to get married in NZ, your Uncle Doug is really bummed! I was a little surprised…he was very excited when I called and told him and then I told him you were going to get married there and have a party when you return, and that was the bummer moment. I guess he figures he’s been around since you were really little, yes we have been together 25 years this year, and married for 19..so, I guess he’s entitled to feel bummed! Otto and I will try to console him...
You know its big news when Grandpa calls me….at work, to see if I've read your blog today, after Adam called him...of course I hadn't yet, it was only noon, and I was in on e of my communities...but he needed help with the internet--his router went off line, and I am his personal "MIS" Department...and this was an emergency! He needed to get on line and read it, Adam wouldn't give him any details. After I walked him through how to re-boot his router he logged on, read and called me back with the news!
Needless to say this was the fastest news traveling from New Zealand to Florida in the recent past. The grandparents are THRILLED!! I think that is as loud as I can "scream" on e-mail...but you can bet that they have told all their neighbors and everyone at the Church Thrift Shop will know when they work on Wednesday. And you can be sure that they have told "The Mayor" and she has "barked" it up and down the street..so consider yourself "announced"! Might I just add...at this point, this being a cruel joke (and it would be), would not be a good idea...the thought of 2 schnauzers hopping a plane to NZ to "nip" you--Andrew, in the butt, for your sick humor is not something that the airlines are ready for...and they would be on the next plane....and Uncle Doug and I would be escorting them, just so they could execute their "plan"...
Of course, I know that this is just terrific news that you wouldn't dare kid about...and we couldn't be happier for you...except if you were getting married here! Either way we will be more than happy to celebrate with you in "spirit" on the big day...and in person when you return home! WooHoo!!!
PS: Of course this also means that Otto will advance his "search" for the perfect companion when you return...he thinks--wedding...house..."buddy"!
(He is a dog of little brain...and a one track mind..ok, 2 tracks--locating his supper bowl is actually “track 1”).
Anyway….so very, very happy for you both…you’ve made the right decision, and we love you both!!!!
